Professor Ervin Weiss is a specialist in Prosthodontics and Oral Rehabilitation, past Head of the School of Dental Medicine at Tel Aviv University, and a second-generation dental professional. For years he headed the Department of Prosthodontics at Hebrew University -Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem. He holds accrued experience of some 40 years in the field, including research in oral microbiology, implant dentistry, and oral rehabilitation.
Dr. Weiss became fascinated by dentistry at an early age when he watched his father at work in his dental clinic in the 1950s. Dr. Weiss’ father, Rivi, survived the Nazi labor camps because he could carry out extractions and essential dental treatments.
It is these very “dental roots” and the vast academic and practical knowledge he has accrued that led Dr. Weiss to develop his minimally-invasive and minimal-intervention treatment philosophy. Parallel to his senior roles in academia, Dr. Weiss, with his associate in the past 18 years, Dr. Michal Steinkeller-Dekel, consolidated a focused, multidisciplinary four-hands treatment approach that facilitates the rapid transition from diseased dentition towards a healthy oral cavity, with minimal patient morbidity.
Professor Weiss has trained hundreds of students in dentistry and dental research, published over 170 research articles, and presented more than 200 lectures, abstracts and research studies at international conferences in Israel and abroad. Fifteen patents are registered in his name in dentistry and microbiology.
